Todd Atticus on And How Are Things With You

And How Are Things With You received quite a compliment from Todd Atticus this week when he spoke with Stephen Olsen for Wellington Scoop.

Here’s what he said:

“You don’t always get to meet the author, so talking with Mia at my art show Sala Alas was a bonus – especially given her book, which reminds me of the writing of Ali Smith, is set equally across London and Wellington, two of my favourite places.”

What a compliment for the book — and, for me. I have been buying Ali Smith’s novels and short stories as they come out right from the start. Ever since I got her debut novel, Like (1997) signed at the York Lesbian Arts Festival many decades ago. I love the rhythm of Ali Smith’s writing, its metafictional and political nature and the playfulness around language.

So I am thankful to Todd for this observation — and I’m looking forward to our Cover Reveal lunchtime chat at Unity Books on Tuesday 5 May.
